Happy MLK Weekend! Last week, we had our first lesson about the Corporal Work of Mercy "Visit the Prisoner." We learned about the power of prayer and St. Peter's release from prison by an angel! God works in incredible ways, doesn't He?
This weekend, we take a pause from our regular "Visit the Prisoner" lessons with a special Martin Luther King Day lesson. This Flocknote also has the link for this weekend's Children's Liturgy of the Word video. Join me for the Second Sunday of Ordinary Time.
All of the materials you'll need for this month's lessons will be printable or accessible online, so there's no need to pick up a packet in the Parish Center.
"Martin Luther King "
Family Lesson #17
Our amazing Middle School Youth Minister, Christine Sellnow, has put together this great MLK Day lesson for all ages. Take a look!
If your kids are too young for the movie suggestions in this lesson, you might also consider the 1998 Disney movie about Ruby Bridges, the little girl who was the first to desegregate her Louisiana elementary school in 1960, currently available on Disney Plus.
For even younger kids, here's a read-aloud of a great children's book about Martin Luther King, Martin's Big Words by Doreen Rappaport, illustrated by Bryan Collier.
"Love does that... It just keeps going, even when things are dark."
Kid President
Special Bible Verse
As a family, read this Bible verse a few times slowly. Take a quiet moment to think about what Jesus is telling us.
"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free person, there is not male and female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
Galatians 3:28
If you wish, you could also write out this Bible verse in fancy letters, or even try to memorize all or part of it!
God Sightings
This week, I saw God when I prayed with this rosary my son gave me for Christmas, both in the beautiful prayers of our faith and in the bright colors of the rosary.
Remember to share your own God Sightings in the "Share your faith work" section below!
