Hello Faith Formation Families!
Wish Mama Mary a
Happy Mother's Day!
It's Mother's Day Weekend, so let's take a moment to remember our Blessed Mother, Mama Mary! Did you know that from the cross, Jesus gave us Mary to be our mother, too? The gospel of John says,
"When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, 'Woman, behold, your son.' Then he said to the disciple, 'Behold, your mother.' And from that hour the disciple took her into his home."
John 19:26-27
That beloved disciple represents all of us! Like he did, we can take Mary into our homes, and just like we can ask for our own mothers and grandmothers to pray for us, we can always ask our Blessed Mother Mary to pray for us!
This Mary shrine was my grandma's. She kept it in her kitchen, and she would pray while she cooked or washed the dishes. Mama Mary was always my grandma's friend, model, and advisor. I keep it in my home office now, and it reminds me of both my beloved grandmother and my Blessed Mother Mary in heaven!
Let's pray a "Hail Mary" together. This prayer has words from two important moments in Mary's life. The Angel Gabriel's greeting to Mary when he told her she would be the mother of Jesus was, "Hail, favored one, the Lord is with you!" And when Mary, pregnant with Jesus, visited her cousin Elizabeth, pregnant with John the Baptist, Elizabeth exclaimed, "Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!" (In this sentence, "fruit of your womb" means "the baby growing inside you.")
Pray and then print & color the Hail Mary.
Happy Mother's Day, Mama Mary,
and Happy Mother's Day to all the other mamas, grandmas, aunts, and special ladies in your lives!
Amen!
